Crossing the Line Report

Transgender (trans) women are at higher risk of sexual violence than cisgender women (James, 2016; National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs, 2014, 2015, 2016). Trans women of colour face discrimination and violence on the basis of the intersection of their gender and racial identities, and, for some, their sexual identities as queer women. However, there is an absence of Australian research investigating the experiences of sexual violence among trans women of colour.

This report outlines the findings of the research project funded by Australia’s National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety (ANROWS) entitled “Crossing the line: Lived experience of sexual violence among trans women of colour from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds in Australia”. The research was conducted by researchers based in the Translational Health Research Institute, Western Sydney University.
